ACI-Kuwait Chapterís Social Committee organized a site visit to the premises of the College of Science, which is currently under construction at Kuwait Universityís new Sabah Al Salem University City premises in Shadadiya. The visit took place on 17th January, 2016.
A large group of members visited the site. The tour began with a brief presentation by the Resident Engineer, Mr. Fausto Martinez, who explained the salient features of the design of the college buildings as well as the complexities of its structure. The buildings have been designed to LEED silver standard, and Mr. Martinez highlighted the special features that have been incorporated in the project.
College of Science will be the largest of the new colleges in the new campus that is currently under construction in Shadadiyah. The complex comprises two separate colleges, one for men and the other for female students. The project also includes a large Faculty Club which is located in the grand landscaped Oasis that separates the two colleges, and to which it is linked with bridges at the first floor level.
The College has been designed for a total of 6,350 students and 1,330 academic and support staff. It will house seven major academic departments: Biological Sciences; Chemistry; Earth and Environmental Sciences; Language Unit; Mathematics and Computer Sciences; Physics and Statistics and Operations Research.
