An Innovative Structural System and
An Iconic Architectural Landmark in Kuwait

ACI – Kuwait Chapter presents the awards of excellence to a project in recognition of outstanding work in concrete construction and practices within Kuwait.

The Award of Excellence this year 2009-2010 was presented to Al- Tijaria Tower Project.

Al-Tijaria presents a beautiful combination of an iconic shape and a structural system to match it.

We would like to mention here some of the Tower information
• Stands 218 m above ground level.
• Two Basements (-15 meters).
• Podium (Ground, two Mezzanine floors and
   roof): 5 meters high each floor.
• 36 Office Floors.
• Crown (12-story high).
• Central core 21m in diameter to resist wind
  effects (critical) and earthquake effects.
• 12 Conventional reinforced concrete columns
   and Composite columns on periphery.
• Twist is introduced in floors of tower to give
   its unique shape.
• Each floor is rotated 2o with respect to
   floor below.
• Floors are reinforced concrete slabs
   on structural steel beams.
• Steel beams were necessary to reduce
   their weight and deflections.
